Experience the Teoke, chock full of seasonal ingredients and sincerity
The Teoke Bento (wooden pail lunch box) for \3,410 (excluding service charge) is a perennial favorite in the Okazaki area, a historic area known for its many sites including the museum and Heian Jingu. The visually appealing Teoke Bento, which launched in 1966 immediately following the opening of Kyoto Station on the Tokaido Shinkansen Line, continues to convey the warm hospitality of the chef/owner. Back then in the 1960s, most restaurants opened only for dinner service and shops serving lunch without reservations were rare. The foodstuffs beautifully arranged in the white wooden pail, which was designed by the Living National Treasure, Kiyotsugu Nakagawa, are almost all purchased from the markets, as they have been in the past. The owner/chef personally chooses the peak-season ingredients, prepares them in tasty and nutritional dishes, and offers them at a reasonable price. Many repeat customers come to enjoy the dishes each season, such as the bamboo shoot in spring, beans in the early summer, the hamo (pike conger) in mid-summer, and chestnuts in the fall.
You can relax with your family and friends in the table seats on the first floor. Near the entrance, you can enjoy canal views from the counter or elevated seats.
