Exciting Kyoto cuisine infusing tradition with originality
A kappo (traditional counter-style fine dining) restaurant run by an owner and chef who loves pottery on Shinmonzen-dori, a street filled with antique shops. Mizuno offers a single 25,000 yen prix fixe menu, and following the style of the famous kappo restaurant where he apprenticed, all customers have just one starting time and service starts at once. When we visited, we enjoyed Shiro-amadai Wakasa-yaki Kabura-mushi Ankake (white horsehead grilled in the Wakasa-style (with scales on) and glazed with steamed grated turnip sauce). The dish highlighted the ingredients chosen with a discerning eye at the market and offered a different take on the traditional kabura-mushi (steamed, grated turnip). It was difficult to imagine what it would taste like just by looking at it but we were convinced the moment we tasted it. Mizuno offers exciting Kyoto cuisine that cherishes tradition but is infused with originality.
Immerse yourself in the kappo style and enjoy the live cooking experience with the clean white walls and white wooden counters. Also, feast your eyes on the casually placed Edo-period vases.
