Offering the unchanging flavor of “nishin soba,” which has been handed down through generations
A historic soba shop with a history spanning more than 160 years. Its “nishin soba” (1,870 yen), which was first offered in 1882, is well known. The migaki nishin (dried herring) from Hokkaido is purchased at the market, simmered until it is sweet and salty and meltingly tender, and melds with the umami of the dashi (broth) to produce depth and rich flavor. The fifth-generation owner and chef still offers traditional flavor which blends perfectly with the smooth soba noodles, unchanged for generations. The shop also offers other typical Kyoto fare such as soba with yuba (dried tofu skin), tempura, and yurine (edible lily bulb).
The shop is right next to Minamiza Theater and offers nostalgic, traditional seating on the basement, second, and third floors. There is also tatami-mat seating in the basement.
