Sushi specials offered by a fishmonger with a discerning eye
In 1955, the owner/chef’s father opened the shop near the current location and it was relocated in 2003. Whole fresh fish that Mr. Kawai, the second-generation owner/chef, purchases at the market every morning, are on display. Uotomum Uogiku is an old-fashioned but highly treasured shop in the neighborhood that can cater to customer needs, including grilling the fish or preparing the fish to order whenever possible and free deliveries for orders of \1,000 or more. Also, the sushi prepared by a sushi chef, who trained at a famous sushi shop, is a great draw for neighboring workers who want to reward themselves with a sushi lunch. The first floor has a sales counter and the second floor houses a restaurant for those who want to dine in. The most popular are the daily sushi specials for \1,100 that rotate around five popular dishes including Chirashi-zushi (scattered sushi) and assorted sashimi. Once you fill up with the nigirizushi topped with melt-in-your-mouth braised sea eel and the Tekkamaki (rolled sushi with tuna), you will be energized enough to taken on the afternoon’s work.

The “mum” in the shop’s name, “Uotomum” refers to mum or chrysanthemum in English. The shop was named by the owner/chef’s son.
