Wakaba is a Kyoto cuisine restaurant that offers sushi as well as dining and catered lunches using ingredients that can only be enjoyed in that particular season. “Most important of all is the freshness and the quality of the ingredients,” says the second-generation owner and chef. Since its founding Wakaba has purchased its seafood from the Kyoto City Central Wholesale Market and it has been purchasing its blue-fin tuna, in particular, from the same wholesaler for more than 40 years. Nigiri-zushi (from 2,200 yen) and assorted sashimi (1,650 yen), featuring large pieces of fish such as wild blue-fin tuna from Aomori Prefecture, wild sea bream from Awaji, and wild Japanese tiger prawns, are exquisite dishes that let you savor the excellent flavor of fresh fish. You can also order the prix fixe menu from 5,000 yen, which starts with five types of appetizers.

The first-floor area has a counter and table seats that evoke a familiar and nostalgic atmosphere. The second floor has tatami-mat seating where banquets of up to 20 people can be held.
