“A retreat for adults” where high-quality seafood dishes can be enjoyed at reasonable prices
A retreat-like shop near the Kyoto City Central Wholesale Market, in a section of Shimabara, which had flourished in the past as a geisha quarter.
At Uogashi Miyatake, which was conceived on the concept of “an izakaya (a Japanese-style pub) serving seasonal seafood dishes comparable to a ryotei (a fancy Japanese restaurant),” you can enjoy fish and shellfish selected at the market by a discerning professional at reasonable prices. The “Otsukuri Moriawase (sashimi platter),” which offers an exclusive selection of the freshest fish, is highly recommended. For lunch, the “Higawari Gozen (990 yen),” daily set meal composed of grilled fish and sashimi with various small bowls, is so popular that customers line up as soon as the shop opens.
An open kitchen where the counter aligns with the chef’s cutting board adds to the appeal as it gives you a close-up view of how a professional cleans a fish.
