A wonderland of sake and sakana (appetizers for sake) underneath Shijo-dori Street and Onmae-dori Street
Sakabukuro is an izakaya (Japanese tavern) loved by both locals and Japanese sake aficionados with a rich lineup of Japanese sake and serving fresh seafood dishes. The platter of assorted sashimi, which the regulars invariably order, as well as tara no kobujime (cod sandwiched between kelp), kumoko no surinagashi (soup of pureed cod roe), and sawara no shiotataki (seared and salted Spanish mackerel) are designed to complement Japanese sake and offered as assorted platters that change daily. Since its opening, Sakabukuro has purchased from the market, which has led to long and lasting relationships with the nakaoroshi (intermediate wholesaler), who gets the foodstuff that Sakabukuro wants and also provides advice on cooking methods.
Suitable for drinking alone at the counter and also for banquets in the zashiki(tatami mat rooms). The daily combos featuring seafood are popular for lunch.
