An izakaya (Japanese-style pub) located conveniently by the Nishiki Market and the Nishiki Tenmangu Shrine. KYO no OHESO Nishikiten is a friendly venue where regulars, who have been coming since 2010 when it first opened, and travelers, who love Kyoto, rub shoulders. When you are gazing up at the menu posted above the counter and don’t know what to order, just ask Mr. Hara, the owner/chef, known for his warm personality, for advice. He will probably recommend specialties such as the Oden (stewed vegetables and fish cakes) with white stock made from chicken wing tips and chicken carcass and the Mackerel Sushi made from mackerel from Yaizu or the fresh seafood he personally goes to the market and purchases. The Yukhoe (Korean raw meat dish) of the lean tuna and yuba (tofu skin) (\1,000 by itself or \1,300 over rice in a bowl) can be enjoyed by itself with your drink or with rice as Yukhoe-don (Yukhoe bowl). The light and refreshing taste of the lean tuna and the elegant sweetness of the freshly made yuba are held together by the sweet and salty sauce in this master combination.
